Hovis Advert Analysis

With this essay, I am analysing the 2008, £15 million Hovis TV advertisement. Filmed in Liverpool with a cast of over 750 extras, overseer Ringan Ledwidge portrays a boy (13 year old Brian Mackie) investing in a loaf of bread in 1886, which was when the first Hovis loaf of loaf of bread was distributed, and then venturing with the breads tucked underneath him provide, through doze decades in British History. The concept lurking behind the advertisement is to present that Hovis has been around to get 122 years and is an english Institution. For that reason, the offer lasts 122 seconds; every single second describing each year. The merchandise is been shown to be just as very good, hence the slogan " As good today as it can be been”. Throughout this offer, a range of different camera perspectives are used/ At the beginning, for the duration of the ‘Woman's Rights' march, there is a point-of-view camera taken to give a first person opinion of the picture. This makes all of us feel like we are there in the scene because the camera looks towards the crowd and it makes us feel like our company is looking at them as well. The angle of the shot is low and the distance is actually a long taken. The low perspective shot with this scene makes the crowd about the young boy seem more numerous, greater and highly effective compared to him. It also contrasts the height of the boy towards the large size from the parade. Even though the occasion is already extremely overpowering, this demonstrate emphasizes the quantity of the parade even further setting up a strong effect on the viewers by displaying how important occasions such as this parade were. The result of the low angle shot is repeated in the scene with the armed service of military in World War 1 marching in the street, when the camera is looking up in the soldier. This kind of connotes the fact that soldier is powerful as well as the boy looks up to him. When the boy goes through a great alley whilst kicking a can, this individual enters a bombsite where an emotional camera angle is used. Firstly, a long taken is used to portray the devastating circumstance...
